Weekly Release Recap 1/27

We’re happy to present our Weekly Recap segment thanks to the brilliant work of Pranav Arora and The QR Network. He’ll be picking his favorite tunes of the week and giving a brief review of each of the tracks.

deadmau5 – end

The track is a part of the freshly released “Polar” album which serves as the soundtrack in the Netflix thriller movie of the same name. Fans of deadmau5 have always wanted him to produce a film score since he’s known for his deep and cinematic sound. The album is a dream come true for his fans and consists of 12 tracks. “End” is a true masterpiece by the deadmau5 and what really caught my attention about it was the electric guitar. Having that sound in there gave an aggressive vibe to the track that was balanced out by the soothing sound of piano melodies. This track also brings back the sound from his old track, “Somewhere Up Here,” taking the fans on a nostalgia trip. Overall, this album is filled with ambient masterpieces and is another remarkable feat by the one and only Joel Zimmerman.

Markus Schulz & Christina Novelli – Symphony of Stars (Solis & Sean Truby Remix)

The original track is a beautiful progressive piece that lacked energy but was filled with emotion. Solis and Sean Truby delivered an uplifting version of the track with the perfect blend of energy and emotion. The only complaint I have regarding this remix is that the extended versio is about 4 minutes long, which is very disappointing for any fan of trance. The shorter time doesn’t allow for the proper progressions needed and is strange coming from this pair of producers that usually deliver 5-6 minute tracks.   At any rate, we’re glad to have gotten this remix that finally does justice to the powerful vocals by Christina Novelli.

Jason Ross ft Jonathan Mendelssohn – Close Your Eyes

This track is part of Jason Ross’s new EP “Rooms” which is very special to all the fans of the producer and Anjunabeats since Jason Ross has really gone out of his comfort zone for this group of tracks. “Close Your Eyes” features expressive vocals from one of the most famous singers in the electronic music scene – Jonathan Mendelssohn. The melody is pure bliss to the ears and has the power to take the listener on a journey. I was glad to hear the intro for this tune as it was different from the electro influenced intros we usually hear from the label. I really enjoyed the fusion of various sounds from the whole EP and could have never imagined to hear such different genres from the talented artist. “New Dawn” and “The Gorge” are tracks which also deserve your attention from “Rooms.

Habstrakt – Darkness

I’m not a big fan of bass house, but this track by Habstrakt on Spinnin’ Records has become one of the few tracks from the genre that have made it to my playlist. I was really amused to see Habstrakt on Spinnin Records, since the artist is known for releasing tracks on labels like Never Say Die Records and Oswla. I think the reason I gravitated towards this track is due to the dark vibes that reminded me of the underground techno sounds you’d hear at clubs. There isn’t much variation in the drops which is a little disappointing as I was expecting a harder second drop. This track is huge and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was released as a “Massive Monday” release by Spinnin’, and I hope to hear more such interesting tracks on the label in the future

Arty – Save Me Tonight

Arty is back with another progressive house gem on Armada Music. Arty is one of the few artist whose tracks never disappoint his fans whether it be his progressive house tracks or his trance tracks under his Alpha9 moniker. “Save Me Tonight” features addictive vocals, an emotional melody, and fantastic chord progression. The drop is energetic and bouncy and brings the 2013- 2014 progressive house sound back. Parts of the track remind me of Avicii’s sound which makes this track even more special to me. “Save Me Tonight” has been stuck in my head since its release, and is the perfect track to hear at a festival accompanied by fireworks.
