Hey,
Hey hey, what’s up!
Who are you? (Tell us more about what you do in life, where you live, your age, your real name, what elements could define you, …)
My name is Loreno Majer (artist name Loreno Mayer), I’m 25 years old. I’m a music producer, composer, and DJ from Rijeka, Croatia. I’m currently living in Ireland where I moved last year. I could define myself as a hardworking, positive person who never gives up no matter what. Always learning new things, I really enjoy meeting new people and working with them!
I started producing music when I was around 13 or 14 and I decided that I want this more than anything else when I was 15 years old. That’s when I just fell in love with it and until this day my mind can’t go 1 day without thinking about my goals and all that I want to achieve. Every time I achieve something I get hungrier and hungrier for more and bigger goals!
How did it all start for you?
As I mentioned, I started showing interest at the age of 13 when I used to play on my stepdad’s keyboard, asking him how he does it and that’s when I found out about Fruity Loops. I was trying to learn David Guetta’s songs at that time, stuff like “Memories”, “When The Love Takes Over” also older stuff from the ’90s plus many others. Many of my family members were and still are into music so that kind of influenced me to go in their direction. I’ve shown interest in music since I was a kid, I always used to dance and sing so much, my mom had a hard time keeping me calm lol. And in the end, at the age of 15, it all started very seriously, I remember I set my goals and started working night and day on music. I barely even slept. My very first releases were released back in 2012 and that’s when it all started, so 10 years in the music industry already. Time flies!
Which style(s) of music are you currently producing?
Currently, I produce progressive house and progressive trance as my main thing. Besides these styles, I also experiment a lot with electro house, pop, rock and mix them together with progressive house or trance. So maybe people will hear something very cool, fresh, and unique soon.
Latest singles:
“Who You Are” ft. Enya Angel (Enhanced Music)
“Compass” ft. Anthony Meyer (Nik Cooper)
“Giants” ft. Brandon Mignacca (Interplay)
“I Can Feel It” ft. Robbie Rosen (Interplay)
Why did you choose it?
Progressive house is the style that I’ve been doing almost since I started producing. I will never stop making it because this is where I gained most of my fans from and I don’t ever want to let them down! The song that started my progressive house journey was “Motionless” released on Cr2 Records and also “Don’t Let Me Go” which can be heard here:
Experimenting with other styles is always a smart thing to do so I like Rock and Pop, I like to mix emotions with hard stuff, energetic stuff.
Trance music is a different story, my best friend is a big trance fan and he always used to send me trance stuff for me to check and with time he just made me like it, I felt a special connection with it and just said to myself “this is exactly what I want to do next”! So it all started in trance music with “Zoya” released on Black Hole Recordings (AVA) and also a vocal trance track “Colours”.
Why are you producing music? And more globally, what does “music” mean to you?
I do this because I love it, I never felt so much love for something like I feel for music. I live my life for this, music is everything to me.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get inspired a lot by visiting some nice places like beaches for example. I get inspired when I take long walks listening to music and thinking.
Also besides that, I love listening to my favorite artists and bands who give me ideas and inspire me a lot.
What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?
Ugh, that is a tough one, I have probably like 100 tracks which I can never get enough of. I would say Linkin Park – Don’t Stay, Bruce Hornsby – The Way It Is, Paul McCartney – Fuh You, Audien – Hindsight, Arty – Zara, Omnia – The Fusion, plus way more. These are just those which came up in my mind at this moment.
According to you, what is the best way to develop a business in the music industry?
In my opinion, the most important thing is working hard, giving all your free time to this. Being a polite, down-to-earth person, never having an ego because that will ruin many opportunities either with people you work with or with your fans, no one likes that. It’s very important to meet a lot of people and help each other in many ways, learning from others and always improving your skills, making your circle of people bigger and bigger because you cannot make it completely by yourself, ever. Connections help a lot besides all the hard work.
Do you live from your musical activities? If not, do you plan to make a living from music in the future?
Currently, I’m in between, almost there with that. And yes, definitely that is my goal and I will achieve it soon!
Do you have stuff in preparation, future collaborations, or personal projects?
Oh yeah, a lot of stuff in progress! I recently got in touch with a producer who I look up to and who has been my inspiration since I started almost, we already agreed to do a collaboration together so that is happening!
A lot of progressive house tracks in progress with my new sound which I’m sure people will enjoy, I also have some trance tracks coming soon and some experimental stuff with rock bands and producers from other genres which I’m really excited about! I don’t want to announce any names or anything yet, everything will be announced on my social media when the time is right!
And for the producers out there:
In what Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) are you currently working? And why that one?
I work in Fruity Loops, I started on it and I’ve never stopped using it, it’s simple, fast to work in and I’m very satisfied with it!
On average, how much time do you spend in the studio on a typical day or week?
I spend around 4-5 hours a day working on music. That’s weekly around 30-35 hours.
Do you have any technical tips to share with us (composition, sound design, mixing, mastering, or anything else…)?
Keep it simple, don’t ever think it’s better if it has more elements. As it’s getting fuller it’s harder to mix, a track with a few instruments is so much easier to mix and you will get a stronger and cleaner mix when you have 1 or 2 amazing sounds rather than 8 layers just for 1 lead for example.
Always check your tracks in mono, listen if your vocals or leads are on the right volume if they are lost in the mix if anything is masking them. Also the same goes for other elements in the track.
Use a professionally produced track for a reference, compare it with your work always as it gives you an idea of how your track should sound, hear what your track is missing, and fix it.
Let’s talk “We Are Giants”
What was your inspiration for this mix?
I miss the events which can’t happen because of Corona so I made this mix for all the fans wanting to dance and enjoy some trance/progressive sound!
How fast did the mix come together?
I made this mix in around 3 hours and really enjoyed it!
What is the story behind this mix?
The name “We Are Giants” is actually the lyrics of my track “Giants” which I released on Interplay Records (by Alexander Popov). The meaning of it is that we are “little” people with giant goals and dreams and we can do anything we desire, so I decided it would be great to name this mix after it!
