Hey,
Greetings!
Who are you? (Tell us more about what you do in life, where you live, your age, your real name, what elements could define you, …)
I’m James, a 24-year-old music producer from Asheville NC. I’m generally a pretty laid-back person who likes to live life to the fullest and go for what I want while still having a chill attitude towards whatever it is.
What’s the meaning behind your artistic name?
Originally, it just sounded cool and was unique but the meaning behind it is the idea that we all exist on this earth not because we chose to but it just happened. And so what do we do with our life? Enjoy the afterparty and live it up.
When did you start producing music?
How did it all start for you?
My friend showed me a Skrillex track on nice headphones.
Which style(s) of music are you currently producing?
Maily dubstep with subgenre influences from colour bass, riddim, and brostep.
Why did you choose it?
Personally, I think it is the most innovative and creative genre in music right now.
Why are you producing music? And more globally, what does “music” mean to you?
To be creative and connect with people.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Other people’s music and art.
What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?
For me, every song has an expiration date if you listen to it too many times.
According to you, what is the best way to develop a business in the music industry?
By networking, having good connections with the right people, while bringing value to them.
What has been your favorite gig (show) so far?
I haven’t played any yet but hopefully, when the corona thing ends, I’ll get to play some shows.
Do you live from your musical activities? If not, do you plan to make a living from music in the future?
No, everything I make just goes back into it. I don’t plan to because I don’t want money to influence my art.
Do you have stuff in preparation, future collaborations, or personal projects?
Yes. Hopefully going to drop some big tunes soon – collabs, remixes and a possible EP.
And for the producers out there:
In what Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) are you currently working? And why that one?
Ableton, it just happens to be what I picked and I think it had the best workflow of all that I’ve seen.
On average, how much time do you spend in the studio on a typical day or week?
20 hours or so a week.
Do you have any technical tips to share with us (composition, sound design, mixing, mastering, or anything else…)?
Learn the basics and be creative from there. Avoid the trap of just blindly following trends and copying what someone else does exactly – put your own flare on it.
Let’s talk about “Gravitate to me”
What was your inspiration for this mix?
To play my recent tunes together and see how each one could flow into the next. Also to showcase a lot of upcoming producers in the future dubstep/colour bass sub genre because that is where the scene is going right now.
How fast did the mix come together?
About two weeks on and off. I picked out the tracks I wanted to play then tried to fit them together in an interesting way while still letting each one be heard.
Finally:
Any important people in your life you wanna mention, thank, or talk about?
I would like to just shoutout all the other producers and people who have worked with me and supported my tunes so, you know who you are 😉
Anything you wanna add to end up this interview?
Thanks for having me do a mix for you. I always enjoy showcasing new tunes and my taste as to what a live show mine would be like.
