EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Jose Ayén

Hey,

Hey!

Who are you? (Tell us more about what you do in life, where you live, your age, your real name, what elements could define you, …)

My name is Jose. I live in Spain and you could say that I love the world of sound production and electronic music.

When did you start producing music?

I started to be interested in music production and compose my first beats with a PC around 2005.

How did it all start for you?

Through a friend who began to pass me songs and sessions of techno, electro, house music, etc. From that moment on, I thought that was the music I wanted to do.

Which style(s) of music are you currently producing?

Right now I really like the techno sound with melodic touches.

Why did you choose it?

I have always been linked to techno and club music evolves fast at this time. The melodic is gaining prominence.

Why are you producing music? And more globally, what does “music” mean to you?

I produce music because musical production fascinates me and electronic music is a very creative style for technical art. I also believe that it is a way of expressing myself artistically.

Where do you get your inspiration?

My inspiration can come from many places in a state of mind to a new synth sound.

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?

There is an album by a Swedish group called The Knife, which is an album that I love and I think all the songs are very good.

According to you, what is the best way to develop a business in the music industry?

I really think that the most influential thing is having good contacts. It’s a bit sad but the reality is that music is secondary.

What has been your favorite gig (show) so far?

I have not done concerts for a long time. Currently, I am focused only on music production.

Do you live from your musical activities? If not, do you plan to make a living from music in the future?

It is a difficult world to live solely on music but I keep working hard to get things.

Do you have stuff in preparation, future collaborations, or personal projects?

Yes, of course! have an EP with a contribution from my friend and producer Senmove, and another personal EP of mine. At the moment there is no publication date.

And for the producers out there:

In what Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) are you currently working? And why that one?

I usually compose with Ableton and mix with Cubase. These are 2 sequencers that I love.

Ableton because it is very intuitive, fast, and very creative and Cubase because I have been working with it from the beginning.

On average, how much time do you spend in the studio on a typical day or week?

A lot of time. When I am composing I can spend more than 10 hours and when I mix I do try to take several breaks.

Do you have any technical tips to share with us (composition, sound design, mixing, mastering, or anything else…)?

Above all, work and dedication, because educating your ear is what will lead you to get better sound.

Let’s talk about “Working Class Hero”

What was your inspiration for this mix?

Those of us who dedicate most of our time to the production of music are the working class of music and I believe that one day we will reach our goal to be the heroes of so much work.

How fast did the track come together?

It was very fluid and inspiring work.

What is the story behind this track?

My sessions are made with songs that represent my way of understanding electronic music with a very characteristic sound.

Finally:

Anything you wanna add to end up this interview?

Music is a means of expression and escape and relaxation.

Listen to a lot of music and support your favorite artists.

Thank you very much for your time!

Thanks to you, it has been a pleasure!
