EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: LionX Talks about “Light” and his Producing Experience

Who are you? (Tell us more about what you do in life, where you live, your age, your real name, what elements could define you, …)

I’m LionX, a DJ and music producer based and born in Castiglione del Lago (Italy). My real name is Leonardo Straffi and I’m a 21 years old boy chasing his dreams.

When did you start producing music?

It all started when I was 14, in 2013.

How did it all start for you?

The beginning was unforgettable for me, I have always been a music lover, but EDM captured me and changed my life. I decided to start producing my own music thanks to legends like Avicii, Hardwell, Swedish House Mafia, Nicky Romero, Calvin Harris, Afrojack… just to name a few. They all gave me so much inspiration, feelings, and motivation that I can’t even describe. That’s how I felt my destiny was to become a DJ and producer.

Why are you producing music? And more globally, what does “music” mean to you?

Making music is a relief valve for me, my goal is to leave a mark in this industry through millions of people’s hearts. I wouldn’t live a life without music, it’s impossible to describe all the good that music does to me and globally. I’m addicted and it’s beautiful, it’s just one of the few addictions that don’t hurt but make you feel alive more than ever. Music is poetry, emotions..life. One of the biggest reasons to live this life.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Inspiration is cool because it can come from literally nowhere even if you’re doing nothing, but remember, as Thomas Edison once said: genius is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration.

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?

There would be too many, but just to pick one of them: Hardwell feat. Mitch Crown – Call Me A Spaceman

This one will never get old and I would for sure name it a top 10 EDM track of all time.

What has been your favorite gig (show) so far?

Always the next one.

Do you have stuff in preparation, future collaborations, or personal projects?

Yes, I’m glad to work with many talented producers, can’t wait to show you all the stuff we’re cooking.

And for the producers out there:

In what Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) are you currently working? And why that one?

FL Studio, that’s where I started and most probably where I will end.

Do you have any technical tips to share with us (composition, sound design, mixing, mastering, or anything else…)?

To all the producers reading this, if you need any help with tips/tricks or feedback just shoot me an email at lionxofficial@gmail.com I’ll be glad to see if I can help you in any way!

Let’s talk “Light”

What was your inspiration for this track?

I’ve been through a not-so-easy period, but music has been my sweet escape (as always) so I tried to put my emotions into ‘Light’ and some more of my new upcoming projects. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy them.

How fast did the track come together and what’s the story behind it?

To be honest, it didn’t take a lot of time to come together, also because I started it during the first lockdown in my country. We decided it was a good time to make a track together and so we did. It just stayed on my unreleased for a while, then Daniel and I decided to find an appropriate voice to add over our idea and Ratfoot was indeed the right vocalist for this project. We’re glad to release this one on our home Eonity, and there’s another very special one by us coming over there soon, for sure one of the best projects I have ever produced, be ready!

Finally:

Any important people in your life you wanna mention, thank, or talk about?

People that really care about me are most probably reading this, I wanna say a big thank you to all the beautiful humans that are supporting my music and me in my private life. I really love you.

Anything you wanna add to end up this interview?

This has been my first interview ever and I’m very glad it’s for the label I work for since the start.

Thank you very much for your time!

Been a pleasure! Have a nice day!
