EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: WildVibes and Wholm

Hey!

Who are you? (Tell us more about what you do in life, where you live, your age, your real name, what elements could define you, …)

WildVibes: I am 21 years old, living in Ghent, Belgium. Currently studying Economic Business Management. My real name is Wouter Postelmans. Elements that could define me: I enjoy the small things in life, I love to cook & BBQ.

Wholm: My name is Emil Wennerholm and I’m 20 years old, living in Gothenburg, Sweden. I graduated from school 2 years ago and I worked until February this year when I decided to quit my job and to focus 100% on my music.

What’s the meaning behind your artistic name?

WildVibes: When you hear my music you instantly want to jump, dance and have a great feeling around you!

Wholm: It’s basically taken from my surname “Wennerholm”!

When did you start producing/working with music?

WildVibes: 6,5 years ago!

Wholm: In March 2014. So a bit over 7 years!

How did it all start for you?

WildVibes: Swedish House Mafia turned me into who I am right now 🙂 They gave me such a huge inspiration!

Wholm: I’ve always been into music and I got my first keyboard when I was 7 and began taking piano lessons. Then I found out about Avicii, Tobu, and also Steerner who made a mark on what genre I began to produce and were also the reason I got into music production.

Which style(s) of music are you currently producing?

WildVibes: Progressive house, pop/dance, deep house, folk house, and basically whatever I like to make 🙂

Wholm: I’m trying out lots of different genres. I’m really into more retro styles but also the modern pop vibe. At the same time, I’m making some progressive house (not as much as before) and also orchestral soundtracks.

Why did you choose it/them?

WildVibes: I don’t follow trends or hypes, I do what I feel is right to do.

Wholm: I make music that I like!

Why are you producing music? And more globally, what does “music” mean to you?

WildVibes: Music is my everything. Explaining my feelings and expressing myself. Writing a real-life based story is one of the best feelings you can have.

Wholm: I love music and it has always been a big part of my life. Ever since I started out with FL Studio I’ve loved the feeling of creating something that I think is good, discovering new things, etc. I was never that into lyrics before and I mostly expressed myself with melodies or the sounding of the songs themselves. As of lately, I’ve been getting more into writing lyrics which is something I’m excited to learn more about!

Where do you get your inspiration?

WildVibes: Life experience is my key!

Wholm: It can vary a lot. Sometimes it could be different events in life or different environments such as trips to different countries or cities but has been a bit difficult because of the current pandemic. I’m coping with it, though.

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?

WildVibes: Sebastian Ingrosso – Reload

Wholm: David Guetta & Avicii – Sunshine

According to you, what is the best way to develop a business in the music industry?

WildVibes: Stay humble, respect comes from both sides, be open-minded, develop your own signature sound, and stay happy 🙂

Wholm: Believe in what you’re doing. Not only in the music industry but in life in general.

What has been your favorite gig (show) so far?

WildVibes: Finland, Fabric Festival 2017.

Wholm: I’ve never had a gig. 😉

Do you live from your musical activities? If not, do you plan to make a living from music in the future?

WildVibes: No, I keep it as a hobby. I don’t want to be forced to make music 24/7. I make music when I feel I want to, not because I need to.

Wholm: As of now I can’t make a living out of my music but I hope I’ll be able to in the future.

Do you have stuff in preparation, future collaborations, or personal projects?

WildVibes: A LOT! Unfortunately, I can’t go in-depth yet, but I can tell you that my schedule is full until September…

Wholm: I’ve got lots of tracks that are almost ready for release. I’m also starting a new project together with my friend Cageman, called GÜTE where we’ll release more retro-style tracks. I’m also planning to start a project for my orchestral tracks. STAY TUNED!

And for the producers out there:

In what Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) are you currently working? And why that one?

WildVibes: FL 20. Very easy to work with 🙂

Wholm: Fl Studio 20. I’ve worked with it since the start and it gives me a good workflow.

On average, how much time do you spend in the studio on a typical day or week?

WildVibes: In the past, almost every day 5-7 hours. Nowadays 10 hours a week. The older you get, the more things you have to do haha!

Wholm: It really depends on if I got inspiration or not. Sometimes I can sit for a whole day and sometimes I don’t produce anything for several days.

Do you have any technical tips to share with us (composition, sound design, mixing, mastering, or anything else…)?

WildVibes: Mix on low volume, use a reference song to finalize your mix. Don’t be afraid to experiment and go out of the box.

Wholm: I’m veeery good at overdoing my productions and making them worse than they were from the start which has resulted in many of my tracks never being released, which I’m regretting now. So I’d recommend letting loose sometimes and just releasing your songs as they are. Who knows, it could be the hit of tomorrow!

Let’s talk about “Never Be Alone”

How fast did the track come together?

WildVibes: If I’m not wrong, it took us a year or more to have the right elements and right feeling!

Wholm: I know I sent the first demo of the song to Wildvibes a long time ago and that first demo was created over 3 years back haha. From the point we decided to work on it together we remade the whole track and sent it back and forth to each other for around a year.

What is the story behind this track?

WildVibes: Emil (Wholm) and I wanted to make a song to encourage people that they will never be alone. Especially during these days, it’s a hard time for everyone. This song is meant to encourage all the people who might have some hard days. We hope you can stay positive and enjoy life to the fullest!

Wholm: Wouter’s answer sums it up pretty good! 😉

Thank you very much for your time!

WildVibes: You’re more than welcome! I’m happy that we found a great home to our song Never Be Alone 🙂

Wholm: Thank you too! Happy to be a part of this! 🙂

Born and raised in the 2000s on the west coast of Sweden, Wholm began his musical journey at the age of 13.

In combination with his computer and keyboard, he has produced hundreds of tracks, one called ‘Polar’ together with the Swedish DJ and producer Steerner as well as the songs ‘Cool’ and ‘Motion’ in collaboration with the Latvian producer Tobu.

He has also, together with Cageman, produced the song “Born Again” featuring Michael Shynes, which got to the top charts on Artlist as well as Spotify.

His inspiration can vary between Avicii’s melodies and Coldplay’s atmosphere to genres and styles such as Swedish pop, electronic dance music, and orchestral music.

His music often comes with an uplifting touch in the forms of happy melodies and chords with yet an emotional feeling in form of vocals and harmonies.

He’s working on a lot of new music and got many tracks in store to reach new and already existing listeners.
