We took some time to interview Tenka who provided our latest episode of Eonity Mixes. Tenka is an Artist who mixes the Punch of the Rap with the loudness of Bass Music. Unlike everyone else he’s using traditional instruments picked around the world to create his own Ethnic influences.

Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into music.
I used to play guitar for fourteen years and played in a Hardcore Metal band for ten years. We got lot of shows around the Europe and we did three albums together. In December 2016, I started to produce and learn electronic music. At the beginning, it was just for fun but I quickly meet some rappers like MISMO and start to do some more professional sounding beats. Some months after we created the French collective, “Ya Hangover” with Skan, Rune, MISMO, AVOK, Gold Bomb, and Anonymal. I started to play shows as a DJ under a different alias and was having a good time with it. At the time, I didn’t really have any desire to grow my knowledge of electronic music production, but people told me to continue and improve my skills. In May 2018, I finally revealed my project, Tenka, that I had been working hard on for more than a year, learning new techniques and preparing my own style.
How would you define your style?
My style blends interesting world instruments and trap music. I don’t use so much Serum like most producers as I’m trying to use organic sounds as possible. I like flutes and ethnic influences on an 808 bear more than a synthetic growl. During my shows, I almost exclusively play this type of modern ethnic stuff with a really orchestral approach with some epic influences like you might hear in a soundtrack!
How did you go about making your mix for Eonity?
I find a lot of my music on Soundcloud still. If I hear something with a cool ethnic sound, I download it straight to my library. I think it’s really important to support all artists, so if they didnt offer their song up for free, I’ll go to iTunes or Beatport to download the song from there. I only have official tracks in my collection.
What are some of your favorite memories while performing onstage?
The best memory was at the Laiterie in Strasbourg, France with Ya Hangover. The venue was absolutely packed and the crowd was insane as they were all moving to the beat of my music! I was playing with Gold Bomb and Mismo which was incredible for my first show as Tenka!
What’s coming up next for Tenka?
I’m working really hard on some tracks with world-renown rapper. I will also release a sample pack in 2019 with some of the sounds that I’ve recorded. I haven’t booked a lot of shows for 2019 but I want to focus most of my time in the studio and my upcoming releases. The goal is to build up my discography so that I can play more of my own songs during my shows and hopefully move away from DJing to incorporate live elements into my shows.
There are a lot of great releases in the pipeline for me like an instrumental, orchestral track with R3VXS that will be out on Magic Music early 2019. There’s also an aggressive track with Nimez & Drama B that’ll be out in January on Tribal Trap. I just releases a hip-hop track with Tali Rush & MISMO that features electric guitar and flutes. Other than these, there are others in the works with artists like Lenny, Onur Ormen, Osaki, Rune, and many more! Keep an eye on my socials to follow all my latest releases!
